Ever wonder why North Carolina is nicknamed the “Tarheel State”?  Come out to the park to hear about the mighty longleaf pine tree, the state tree of North Carolina, including its natural and cultural history.  We will talk about some of its historical and present day uses here in coastal Carolina including how much of a demand its tacky pine tar was.  Its evidence can still be seen today in many of the nearby forests.  So many roles for just one tree!
